Turmeric Milk Will Make You Feel Better
As creatures of habit, we can do detox, only to turn around after the last sip of herbal tea and retox. We'll imbibe, then abstain and not ever really know why. What happened to moderation, right?
So if you find yourself in a relentless round of this, when you have some downtime (crucial and hard to find in the coming festive months) take heart and get some heat in you in the manner of turmeric milk.
After all the sugar-soaked snacks and too many tipples, give your body a rest with this anti-inflammatory concoction made from warming turmeric (the spice used in Indian food to give curry its kick), which is known for its excellent anti-oxidant and antibiotic properties, according to Yoga+Joyful Living magazine.
There's got to be some reason, after all, that the rate of Alzheimer's disease is lowest in turmeric-consuming countries like India. The anti-inflammatory properties are said to keep the body in better harmony and while also keeping disease (caused by inflammation, the conventional thinking goes) at bay.
Not to mention: the warm milk will help you sleep and extra-double bonus is how good this tastes. If you're not into dairy, substitute soy or almond milk for the regular milk.
Turmeric milk:
Heat 2 cups organic milk with 1⁄2 teaspoon turmeric powder, a pinch each of freshly grated ginger-root and cracked black pepper, and 1 cinnamon stick. Cook until the milk comes to a full boil. Enjoy warm.
Variation: Use 2 crushed cardamom pods instead of a cinnamon stick. Add crushed jaggery, honey, or sugar to taste.
