tonic luella bartley tees and totes

Tonic Luella Bartey TeesTonic’s project with Luella Bartley launched just after the success of the Original Tonic Tees. We found a perfect partner in Luella Bartley, London’s “It” girl. We partnered with her to showcase our supported causes in a fun, irreverent way with the talents of a high-fashion designer. From design to delivery, Tonic worked with suppliers and vendors to ensure the eco-sustainability and fair-labor production. The end result is this limited-edition collection of tees and totes featuring Luella's exclusive designs.

Soft and supple, simple yet elegant, the Tonic Luella Tees combine Luella’s designs with an ONNO “socially responsible” t-shirt made from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton (if you haven’t worn a bamboo shirt, you'll never want to take it off!). It’s easy to take care of, although we recommend line drying to protect the silkscreened design.

The Tonic Luella Tote is made from sustainably produced fabric and manufactured using fair labor practices. A home-grown effort, the tote is the result of the Tonic team’s obsession with reusable shopping bags and the need for a heavy-duty version that doesn’t look like you bought it at your supermarket checkout line. The bag carries the same designs as on our tees, and folds (and zips) into its own built-in wallet-size packet.

Luella BartleyKnown for her punk inspired, kitschy and cool designs, Luella Bartley was the celebrated recipient of Britain’s Designer of the Year award after launching her first line - and just received the prestigious award again in 2008. "I am so pleased to be part of this collaboration with Tonic,” says Bartley. “I love how the proceeds from the t-shirts go to all sorts of different causes from helping kids in Columbia with dental care to protecting coral reef in the Pacific. It's a cool and original way to give back and I think the design reflects that."

Vogue has said that Luella Bartley "inspires envy for having the perfect life. With three children, an idyllic home in Cornwall and surfer photographer partner David Sims, she also runs an uber-successful fashion label."

When she started out she claimed to make "the kind of clothes you can get drunk and fall over in." She created her first collection for high street store New Look for spring/summer 2002.

Luella Bartley's success took her to show at New York Fashion Week but in 2007 she returned to her roots to show in London and opened a new shop on Brook Street. Her prom dresses have become uniform for young female songstresses from Lily Allen to Kate Nash. And now, she is right here at Tonic.

your impact

34% of sales

Alive and Kicking soccer balls

An average of 34% of sales from the Tonic Luella totes and tees benefits four global causes. The purchase of a Scary Douglas tee supports the Global Fund for Children’s Healthy Little Mouth’s program in its mobile dental care program by providing exams, tools and preventative care to two Colombian Children for a year. Similarly, each Robin tee sends one pair of much needed tennis shoes to a Haitian schoolchild to wear on his or her long walk to school via the Paradis des Indiens Foundation. For every Stag tee sold, Tonic sends one Alive & Kicking UK soccer ball to children across Africa, and each ball is printed with crucial health information on avoiding preventable disease like malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Finally, the sale of each Sun tee preserves 1/4 acre of Pacific coral reef habitat in Micronesia through SaveNature.org. The Tonic Luella Tee project has already contributed over $12,000 to help people and communities all over the world.
